The St. Francis Square in the heart of Victoria, Gozo is looking like a war zone since long months. The ongoing reconstruction of the square has been causing problems to locals since the beginning and despite the reports and complaints submitted to the council the works were not speeded up.
The construction works cause significant air pollution as blocks of stones are being cut in the middle of the square. Traffic diversions to small side-streets make traffic jams and congestions quite frequent and it is getting worse as traffic intensifies in the summer season.
The nearby Health Center, where people often attend with open wounds, bandages and conditions that require certain hygiene conditions, is entirely trashed. Waste piling up, garbage, clouds of fine dust coming from the stone cutting nearby make the Health Center look like a disaster zone.
